When I decided to write a book on theology & the zombie apocalypse, I had no idea what I was getting into. Fans fiercely debate whether the infected in 28 Days Later are really zombies or whether zombies should be able to run as in the remake of Dawn of the Dead or growl like some do in The Walking Dead or whether it makes any sense for their hearts not work and, if they do work, why doesn’t shooting them in the chest work as well as shooting them in the head?
Honestly, people debate this stuff as if their life depended on it. This begged a question for me, does it matter to the casual fan? Do you get wrapped in the story and not think about whether a zombies blood must be pumped by a heart or it would just fill their legs so that they couldn’t move? Do you wonder why zombies attack humans? Do you care?
Is it just about being scared? If so, do zombies running and screeching as they do in the remake of Dawn of the Dead scarier than the ones who just lumber around as they do in Romero’s classic Dead movies? And finally, if you aren’t a die-hard fan, do die-hard fans annoy you?
They’re still Human… so I don’t see why they can’t run?
It depends.
I would propose that since they are “undead” they would no longer be hampered by lung capacity, muscle fatigue, or shin-splints.
I say let them run. It worked well for ZombieLand.
I’m not a huge zombie fan, but I did like Zombieland. It made me laugh. Die-hards don’t annoy me. We’re all die-hard about something.
Not a die hard…. But we need an origins movie with some old timer really explaining the zombie syndrome and how it all started… what they can and can’t do. If someone could logically explain this it would go along way to clearing the water.Certainly a casual fan at best, but when watching movies and things don’t line up in the story, or there’s discrepancies it annoys me.
( stupid example) the undead body is fueled from ammino acids neuro enzymes, which is convereted to energy in the undead brain. This is why they eat brain and shooting them in the heart won’t kill them…
